NYMIZ OBTAINS A STRATEGIC PATENT IN THE UNITED STATES FOR ITS AI DATA ANONYMIZATION TECHNOLOGY

The Basque cybersecurity startup, advised by the Herrero & Asociados team, obtains direct approval in record time and without objections from the USPTO

Madrid, November 27, 2025.- Nymiz, a Basque startup specializing in cybersecurity and data privacy, has obtained a US patent entitled “Automated AI data anonymization of non-structured and semi-structured documents.” The grant, achieved with the advice of the specialized technical team at Herrero & Asociados, was direct and without modifications by the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office), representing a significant milestone that reinforces the Bilbao-based company’s position as a global leader in data privacy in the era of generative artificial intelligence.

An exceptional achievement in record time

The patent, filed on December 22, 2023, was granted on June 30, 2025, and published on August 5, 2025, completing the process in just 18 months without receiving any objections or requiring any modifications to the original application. This timeframe contrasts significantly with the average processing time in the United States, which is usually between two and three years, especially for inventions related to software and artificial intelligence, where objections due to “abstract subject matter” or lack of inventive step are common. For a software innovation to successfully overcome the strict barriers to patentability, it is essential that it be correctly proposed and drafted.

“This direct grant in the United States not only protects Nymiz in the world’s most competitive market, but also constitutes a credential of exceptional quality,” says Isabel de Pablo, telecommunications engineer at Herrero & Asociados. The rapid granting of this patent sets a very positive precedent for any company developing technologies in such sensitive and strategic areas as data anonymization, cybersecurity, applied artificial intelligence, and privacy protection. “Given that these technologies are advancing at great speed, it is crucial to work on obtaining solid and agile protection from the outset, thus ensuring a real and sustainable competitive advantage in markets where innovation and trust are decisive,” she adds.

Key technology in the era of generative AI

The patent protects a fully automated method of anonymizing and pseudonymizing personal data in unstructured or semi-structured documents (emails, PDFs, digitized handwritten notes, among others), using advanced machine learning techniques, natural language processing (NLP), and state-of-the-art neural network architectures such as BERT.

This technology is critical in sectors where personal data protection and sensitive information management are priorities: healthcare and medical records, finance and insurance, public administration, justice, telecommunications, legaltech, and compliance. Nymiz’s solution allows the use of valuable data for generative AI processes, advanced analysis, or model training, without violating privacy and in compliance with regulations such as the European GDPR, the US CCPA, or HIPAA.

Global strategic advantage

The uncontested grant in the United States sets a favourable precedent for extending protection to other jurisdictions through international treaties or direct applications. The persuasive effect of a patent granted by the USPTO, one of the world Global strategic advantage´s most demanding offices in the field of software and AI, significantly increases credibility with examiners in other regions, reduces the risk of objections, and streamlines examination processes in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

“This protection in the United States strengthens our position, gives us a valuable asset, and provides us with the legal coverage necessary to explore licensing and distribution agreements, as well as strategic collaborations to be able to market our product in the American market with guarantees,” says Óscar Villanueva, CEO of Nymiz.
